Avatar Cropper

Crop any photo into a circle, rounded-square or square avatar right in your browser. Drag and zoom to frame your face, logo or character, check how the avatar reads at 128, 64, 40 and 24 pixels, and download a PNG at the exact size the site asks for.

One-click presets set the right shape and pixel size for Discord, Steam, Twitch, Slack, GitHub and X, or you can pick any shape and a 128–1024 px export yourself. Nothing is uploaded — the whole avatar crop happens on your device.

Avatar Tips
  • • Zoom in so the face or logo fills most of the frame
  • • Check the 24–40 px previews — that is how most people will see it
  • • Download PNG to keep the corners outside a circle transparent
512 × 512 px

How to Crop an Avatar

1

Upload your picture

Drop a JPG, PNG or WEBP into the avatar cropper or click to browse. The image stays on your device.

2

Choose a platform or shape

Tap a preset such as Steam or Twitch to set the shape and size automatically, or pick circle, rounded or square and an export size yourself.

3

Frame the avatar

Scroll or use the zoom slider, then drag the photo so the face or logo sits in the middle. Watch the small previews — if it is recognisable at 40 px, it will work everywhere.

4

Download and upload

Download a PNG (transparent outside the circle or rounded corners) or a JPG, then upload it on the site. The platform's own crop box will already match.

Why Use an Avatar Cropper Instead of the Site's Own Crop Box?

Most sites give you a tiny crop box with no zoom control and no idea of how the result will look in a comment thread or member list. Cropping first lets you frame the avatar precisely, then upload an image that the site does not need to crop again.

Avatars are mostly seen small. At 24–40 px, fine details and busy backgrounds turn into noise, so the live previews here show exactly what other people will see next to your name. Zooming in a little further than feels natural usually makes the face or logo read better.

Shape matters too: Discord, Twitch, GitHub and X show avatars as circles and hide the corners, Slack uses a rounded square, and Steam keeps the full square. Choosing the right shape before you export means nothing important gets cut off. For platform-specific guides and sizes, see the Discord, Instagram and other profile picture croppers.

よくある質問

What is an avatar cropper used for?

An avatar cropper cuts a photo down to the square or circular image used as your profile picture on chat apps, games, forums and social sites. It lets you choose which part of the picture is visible, resize it to the size the site expects, and preview how it will look.

What size should an avatar be?

Upload a square image of at least 256 × 256 px; 512 × 512 px is a safe default for almost every site. Some platforms have fixed sizes — Steam uses 184 × 184 px and Slack accepts 512 to 1024 px — and the presets above set those for you.

Should my avatar be a circle or a square?

Use the shape the site displays. If the site shows circles (Discord, Twitch, GitHub, X), crop a circle so you can see which parts will be hidden. If it shows squares (Steam, many forums), crop a square. The file you upload is always square; a circle PNG simply has transparent corners.

Why check the avatar at small sizes?

In chat, comments and member lists your avatar is often only 24–40 px wide. A photo that looks great at full size can become an unrecognisable blur at that size. The live previews let you adjust zoom and position until it still reads clearly.

Can I crop an animated GIF avatar?

The cropper reads the first frame of a GIF and exports a still PNG or JPG. It does not keep the animation, so use it for static avatars.

Is this avatar cropper free and safe to use?

Yes. It is free with no watermark and no account. Your image is processed in your browser with the Canvas API and is never uploaded to a server, so nobody else sees it.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. You can upload from your camera roll, drag with one finger to position the avatar and use the zoom slider, then save the downloaded PNG to your photos.
