Square Image Maker
Make any image square in two ways. Fit keeps the whole picture and fills the empty sides with white, black, a custom color, a blurred copy of the photo or a transparent background. Crop fills the square completely and lets you drag to choose which part of the image stays.
Use it to square up photos for Instagram and other 1:1 feeds, product shots for online stores, album and podcast covers, app icons and profile pictures. Export a PNG or JPG at the original resolution or at 1080 or 2048 px — everything runs in your browser.

Common Square Image Sizes
| Instagram square post | 1080 × 1080 px |
|---|---|
| Online store product photo | 2048 × 2048 px (Shopify's recommendation for square images) |
| Album cover art | 3000 × 3000 px (the usual minimum for streaming distributors) |
| Podcast cover art | 1400 × 1400 to 3000 × 3000 px (Apple Podcasts) |
| App Store icon | 1024 × 1024 px |
| Profile picture / avatar | 400–1024 px square |
“Original” export keeps one image pixel per output pixel, so the square is never upscaled. Choose 1080 or 2048 px when a site asks for a fixed size.

How to Make an Image Square
Upload the image
Drop a JPG, PNG or WEBP into the square frame or click to browse. Portrait, landscape and panoramic images all work.
Choose Fit or Crop
Fit shows the whole image inside the square with padding on two sides. Crop fills the square and trims the longer side.
Pick a background and position
For Fit, choose white, black, a custom color, blur or transparent for the empty space. Zoom and drag the image to place it exactly where you want.
Download the square image
Select Original, 1080 or 2048 px and download a PNG (keeps transparency) or JPG (smaller file).
Square Image Without Cropping vs. Square Crop
Cropping to a square is the right choice when the subject sits in the middle of the frame — a face, a product or a pet. You lose the edges of the longer side, but the square is filled edge to edge, which looks best in grids and thumbnails.
Fitting the image without cropping is better for group photos, landscapes, screenshots, artwork and text, where cutting anything off would ruin the picture. A white background suits product photos and online stores, black suits dark or cinematic images, and a blurred background fills the space with the photo's own colors so the padding barely shows.
A transparent background is useful for logos and icons that will be placed on a colored page later — download it as PNG to keep the transparency. If you need the square turned into a circle afterwards, use the Square to Circle tool.
अक्सर पूछे जाने वाले प्रश्न
How do I make an image square without cropping it?
Choose Fit mode. The whole image is scaled to fit inside the square and the empty space on the shorter side is filled with the background you pick — white, black, a custom color, a blur of the photo, or transparency.
How do I make an image square with a white background?
Upload the image, keep Fit mode and select White as the background, then download. This is the standard look for product photos and marketplace listings.
Can I make an image square with a transparent background?
Yes. Select Transparent as the background and download as PNG. The padding stays transparent, so the image can be placed on any color later. JPG does not support transparency and uses white instead.
What size should a square image be for Instagram?
Instagram displays square posts at 1080 × 1080 px. Select the 1080 px output size before downloading so Instagram does not need to rescale your image.
Does making an image square reduce its quality?
Not with the Original size option: the square is exported at the image's own resolution (up to 4096 px), so pixels are not enlarged. JPG exports use high quality (95%); choose PNG for lossless output.
What is a 1:1 aspect ratio?
A 1:1 aspect ratio means the width and height are equal — a square. 1080 × 1080, 2048 × 2048 and 3000 × 3000 px are all 1:1 images.
Is the square image maker free and private?
Yes. It is free, has no watermark and no signup, and your image never leaves your device — the square is drawn with your browser's Canvas API.
